Investing in innovation

The pace of change in today’s creative industries is relentless and no-one can afford to get left behind. As technology changes the way we create, communicate and consume, it’s imperative that our businesses lead the way in generating new content, applications and services to remain competitive.

South West Screen believes that investing in innovation is one of the most important roles we can play.

That's why we are leading the delivery of the Creative Industries iNet, a £3.2 million programme of support designed to boost the South West's creative sector and enhance our reputation as a centre of excellence.

We have a track record in working with a range of creative companies and key partners like the Pervasive Media Studio. Schemes we have supported such as the Media Sandbox have broken new ground in convergent technologies, virtual worlds and multiplatform content.

Bristol is widely regarded as a major UK creative hotspot, a thriving centre of digital technology outside of London. The Guardian's Tech Weekly Podcast dropped in last year and this is what they found.

In these knowledge-rich industries a little goes a long way. Small amounts of funding have generated pilots, prototypes and experience which have paved the way for new investment, new products - and new profits!

Want to find out more? In the video below, Clare Reddington from iShed, who worked with South West Screen on Media Sandbox, talks about the importance of the scheme and how it ties in with the Pervasive Media Studio, a new space in Bristol which brings together the computing, communication and creative industries to pioneer new forms of digital media.
